How to Honor Support Staff During Administrative Professionals Week

Illustration of three people at laptops wearing headsets: a woman with short hair in a yellow top, a man with a beard in a shirt and tie, and a woman with curly hair in a white top. Behind them are floating icons and screens showing additional headset-wearing figures and symbols for chat, phone, tools, and 24-hour support.

Administrative professionals keep workplaces running, and Administrative Professionals Day, April 22, and Administrative Professionals Week, April 19–25, are perfect opportunities to celebrate the admin professionals you know and work with!

Who Are Administrative Professionals?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Canadian Occupational Projection System project a cumulative total of more than 2.1 million job openings in office and administrative support, including employees who work as:

  • Administrative and Executive Assistants
  • Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Hotel, Motel, and Resort Desk Clerks
  • Receptionists and Information Clerks

If you are an administrative professional, your work has an incredible impact in the workplace and doesn’t go unnoticed! Celebrate your strengths and everything you contribute to your team.

Ways to Celebrate

Recognizing your amazing support staff shows how much you appreciate them. Showing appreciation strengthens morale, promotes retention, and boosts engagement, which is essential to any successful business.

Take time to recognize the administrative professionals in your workplace with these ideas:

  • Cater lunch or send food delivery cards
  • Share your appreciation with a handwritten thank-you note
  • Give a small, thoughtful gift, like their favorite candy or beverage, a nice notebook or pen, or a personalized item for their desk.
  • Recognize your support staff on social media using #AdminProfessionalsDay

History

The history of these observances dates back to 1942, when the National Secretaries Association was created to promote administrative roles and their importance to the economy, following a shortage of administrative personnel during World War II. The first National Secretaries Day and National Secretaries Week were held in 1952 and later renamed.

We now celebrate administrative professionals every year for all the work they do!
